S3: Mechanics of metals: Experiments and models

Martin Diehl (MPIE, Germany) m.diehl@mpie.de

The mechanical behavior of metals and metallic alloys is determined by their internal microstructure. Understanding the response of microstructural features such as second phases, grain boundaries, and dislocations to an applied load allows therefore the targeted design of materials for structural applications. We invite scientists working in the broad field of micromechanics of metals to submit their contributions to this symposium. We especially welcome submissions which include:

  • Scale-bridging simulations (from atomic to component scales)
  • Coupled experimental-computational work
  • Multi-physical aspects of mechanics of metals

  • For joint work of two authors we offer to present their work as a “double feature”, where the first contribution (e.g. focusing on the experimental part) is directly followed by the second (e.g. focusing on the modeling part).
