S8: Fatigue, reliability and lifetime predictions in metals, ceramics and polymers

Sean Leen (University of Galway, Ireland) sean.leen@nuigalway.ie
Isaam Doghri (UC Louvain, Belgium) issam.doghri@uclouvain.be

This session will present new developments on the topics of fatigue, reliability and life prediction for materials, components and systems, manufactured from metals, ceramics and polymers. The ongoing development of nano-, micro-, meso- and macro-scale experimental, theoretical and computational methods for advanced non-linear solid mechanics of such materials provide excellent opportunities for increased material, component and system efficiency, sustainability and reliability. The need for such increased performance is urgent in many application domains, including energy, environmental, biomedical and transport, in particular. The topics of this session are critical to the effective transfer of fundamental developments in mechanics of materials to real performance enhancement for materials and structures.
